Meltwater Movers & Shapers Competition
Guided by our core values, Meltwater has a fundamental belief in people and the potential they possess. We are not afraid of investing in hidden talent and believe that with the right encouragement, guidance and support, young people can move and shape the world of tomorrow. This year we are again running a business competition to give students around the region a chance to show just how creative they can be.The contest is simple:
- Identify a problem and conceptualize a solution
- Explain the problem and proposed solution in a 2 minute video or 5-slide PowerPoint
- Upload your ideas to the corresponding link below for a chance to win US$1,000 and present your ideas at the grand finale
Deadline: December 31st
Submissions will be graded on three criteria:
- Value of the idea – is it a genuine problem ?
- Creativity of the solution – will the solution work?
- Pitch & Presentation of the idea – can you convince us
GENERAL TIPS
Meltwater Group is looking for Asia's most far-sighted students to demonstrate how creative they can be. To submit an entry you simply need to present the solution to us. This is the first step in any entrepreneurial venture, and believing it will work yourself is half the battle. You do not need to create a formal business plan or implementation strategy, but simply present a way to solve a genuine problem that people struggle with.
Identify a Problem. Most great ideas stem from the need to solve a specific problem. Identify something that you find annoying or you struggle with on a regular basis, and you will have a good place to start.
Believe in your idea. Nothing is too small or too big for this competition.Practice your pitch. Refine your pitch with practice as this will help your final submission. Imagine you are pitching this idea to a group of potential investors, and aim to convince them why they should put money into your idea.
Read more from previous finalists. Last year five teams were selected from across Asia to present their ideas to Meltwater's regional management team in Hong Kong. Here's what they had to say:
Participating in the competition was a positive experience that provided us with a unique platform to raise an awareness and offer a solution to an issue of large significance to our home, Hong Kong. With the feedback provided by Meltwater Group and our peers, we left with a renewed motivation to solve Hong Kong's recycling situation with a more focused and refined approach.

Pandamian stemmed from our passion to help writers publish their books digitally. The exposure that MMSC gave us was invaluable in helping us reach out to a larger user base. We were also encouraged by the amount of positive feedback and enthusiasm that the competition brought, not only from the judges, but also from the other finalists and members of the audience. Currently, we are pushing forward with further development and have been invited to speak at this year's Books in Browsers Conference again.
